TBWA's Hunt
to Head Cannes Juries
John Hunt, worldwide creative
director of TBWA/Worldwide, will serve as the president of the
Film and Press & Outdoor juries at the 2005 International
Advertising Festival, organizers announced today. Hunt, a
founding partner of TBWA/Hunt Lascaris in South Africa, moved
to New York last year to take on the network's worldwide
creative director role.
The 2005 festival will take place June 19-25 in Cannes,
France.
INTERACTIVE: Best Buy Promotes Sedentary
Living
From the in-house
advertising department at Best Buy comes this viral effort
promoting the Slothmore Institute, an organization
founded by one Harvey Funkel, dedicated to "enabling greatness
through sedentary living." And the Institute is very serious
about laziness. It offers "Stay In! Solutions,"
"Unmotivational Speakers," and a lax attitude toward
correspondence. "Try and Contact Us," the page suggests.
The payoff is a banner that drives viewers to www.testdrive.bestbuy.com, where indoor
types can find a retail store that features immersive media
experiences based around gaming, watching TV and surfing the
web.
VCU Adcenter Delays Annual Fundraiser
The VCU
Adcenter announced today that its second annual fundraiser, AdChemistry -- which was scheduled to take
place next Thursday in New York -- has been delayed until
February. A spokesperson says the delay is the result of
personal emergencies involving two of the event's six
scheduled speakers.
The follow-up to last year's VCU roast of Joe Pytka,
AdChemistry will feature Ogilvy & Mather vice chairman
Steve Hayden telling all about his former creative partner Lee
Clow; Berlin Cameron/Red Cell CEO Andy Berlin dishing about
former agency partner Jeff Goodby; and David Kennedy
presenting the inside scoop on Wieden + Kennedy partner Dan
Wieden. The rescheduled event will take place at New York's
Gotham Hall on a date in February to be announced.

ON THE WEB
Adland reminds us that ten years ago this
week, the first banner ad appeared on the internet. It was for
AT&T and it appeared on HotWired. It's not much to look at, but
you can view it here, or -- as it looked on the
page -- here.
