The Rubberband Man Gets Animated for OfficeMax

OfficeMax "Santa's Helper"
OfficeMax's funky office supply guy, the "Rubberband Man," gets animated in a new holiday commercial from DDB/Chicago. Playing off earlier live-action spots, "Santa's Helper" casts the character in a stop-motion winter wonderland created by Chel White of Portland's Bent Image Lab. In a style reminiscent of holiday specials like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, the RM goes about his business passing out office supplies to all the girls and boys, backed by a remix -- courtesy of Chicago music house Spank! -- of the Spinners classic that inspired the campaign.

L.A. Spot Production Up in September, October

Los Angeles' commercials shooting days posted year-to-year gains in September and October, according to numbers released Friday by the Entertainment Industry Development Corporation. The EIDC recorded 567 shooting days for spots in September and 503 in October -- figures that repesent a 56 percent and a 10 percent increase, respectively, compared to last year's tallies. Through October, the EIDC has recorded 5,641 commercials shooting days in 2004 -- a 21 percent increase over the same period last year.

BREAKING

MasterCard "Everyday is Sunday"
Rather than, say, engaging them in a violent free-for-all, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning cheers his fans on at their day jobs in a new commercial for MasterCard from McCann-Erickson/N.Y. Directed by Hungry Man's Jim Jenkins, the spot shows Manning tailgating at an insurance office and struggling to get the attention of his favorite star accountant.

Why should art directors have all the fun? Now copywriters can spend hours online, looking for "inspiration" at adHacks, a spoof of stock photography sites from Chicago agency Blue Ant.
