The Power of
the Grandy Championship Ring
For
the second year in a row, Alex Bogusky is serving as the
honorary chair of the Advertising Club of New York's Andy
Awards, which gives Crispin Porter + Bogusky a chance to
continue the campaign it started last year, promoting the
coveted Grandy Championship Ring. This year's tagline is
"Respect the work," and the print execution features ad luminaries
Tracy Wong, Ty Montague, Bob Scarpelli, Eric Silver, Bogusky
and Lee Clow waiting for a chance to kiss the coveted ring. A
new viral TV spot directed by Moxie Picture's Martin Granger
takes it even further, however, as a bona fide bishop bows to
the power of the ring.
The deadline for submitting late-breaking work
is Jan. 5.
BREAKING
Hummer
gets into the holiday swing with a new commercial directed by
Independent Media's Kathryn Bigelow. The spot, from Boston's
Modernista!, shows a father and two sons as they jet down a
mountain on a runaway sled to a soundtrack borrowed from
How the Grinch Stole Christmas. As the the wild ride
wears on, we follow their tracks back up the mountain and see
how they got up there in the first place -- in a Hummer H2, of
course. The Mill provided the visual effects while Boston's
Brickyard contributed effects and the Seussian end graphics.
MOVERS
Danish
director Per Dreyer -- who won MoveOn.org's "Bush in 30
Seconds" competition with a spot called "Child's Play" -- and
New Zealander Brendan Donovan, formerly of Compulsive
Pictures, have signed with A Band Apart for U.S. commercials
representation. ... Copywriter Ariel Lustig, formerly of Mad
Dogs & Englishmen/San Francisco, has joined San Francisco
agency Attik. ... New York music house Tonefarmer has has
secured Siobhan McCafferty for West Coast representation and
Barrie Isaacson for representation on the East Coast.
ON THE WEB
A lot of
bloggers are, um, buzzing about the cover story in yesterday's
New York Times Magazine about
Boston word-of-mouth firm BzzAgent. We assume this is because
they are all secretly working for the company.
PLUS China has banned the Nike ad "Chamber of Fear" as an
insult to its national dignity. (AdCritic subscribers can watch the spot here.)
