An Icon
Marches to New York for Advertising Week

Advertising Week "Crossing
Guard" |
| If you
haven't already heard, Advertising Week in New York kicks off
today, and to promote it, Euro RSCG/N.Y. has created a series
of spots about an icon making the long trip to New York in
search of fame and fortune.
Directed by Euro ECD Jeff Kling, "Icon Journey" features a
rather unappealing icon -- a bloodshot eyeball carrying two
rayguns -- and a documentary filmmaker who believes in him.
Along the way, through almost a dozen spots, they encounter
doubt, danger and -- yes -- even love.
BREAKING
Crispin Porter + Bogusky
has debuted a new series of dealer ads for the MINI
convertible, all built around the tagline "Always Open." In
one spot, directed by Joe Public when the duo was still with
Headquarters, a MINI driver goes top-down in the rain, but
still stays dry thanks to the car's aerodynamics. A second
spot, directed by HSI's Gerard de Thame, follows a man as he
enjoys being out in the open -- all the way from an open baby
carriage to an open casket. In a third, also directed by de
Thame, a guy makes a Matrix-style leap into the
driver's seat.
MOVERS
Santa
Monica-based motion graphics company Fuel has announced that
it will open an office in New York on Sept. 30. Fuel/New York
will be headed by creative director Richard Eng -- who was
most recently a senior designer and animator at Troika Design
-- and executive producer Leelee Groome, who was formerly a
senior producer at Grey/N.Y. ... John Rubino, former manager
of the branding and graphic design practice at architecture
and design firm NBBJ, has been named managing director at
Seattle agency Hadley Green Creates. ... Ann Zagaroli,
formerly with New York's Sacred Noise, has joined bicoastal
design company Brand New School as in-house East Coast sales
rep. ... Katie Ward has been named West Coast rep for
editorial house Inside Out and music company Ten Music. Ward
will also rep Inside Out in the Midwest.
ON THE WEB
A gang of advertising icons -- including
Ronald McDonald and Advertising Week chairman Ken Kaess --
opened the NASDAQ stock exchange today in observation of
Advertising Week. The NASDAQ fell two points. You know they'll
probably blame it on the icons. They always blame the
advertising.
